Workflows and Conversations in Discover Pro

You can use the workflow and conversation tools to add actionable annotations or other information to your data or discoveries; and to send those notes to other users. This helps you to collaborate with other users.

Note: Workflows and Conversations are also available when viewing presentations at runtime and Conversations are available in Discover Lite. For more information, see Workflows and Conversations in Present and Conversations in Discover Lite.

There are two types of Workflow:

  • Conversations: Where you use a chat-style conversation tool to create a threaded commentary with other users. This type of Workflow is Built-in to Pyramid.
  • Custom Workflows: Where you use a custom multi-step workflow (designed by a developer) to communicate with other users based on needs arising from your normal working practices. For example, you may use this functionality to communicate during a standard data review cycle.

Note: Workflows must be enabled from the Admin console.

Workflows or Conversations?

Workflows allow you to annotate data points, hierarchy members, and reports (discoveries and presentations). You can attach content (files and voice recordings) to workflows as a payload. Note: Developers can use the Workflow API to build their own mini workflow apps.

Conversations are a specific workflow type that allow you to make comments in conversation threads with other users. The conversation framework is included in the application out-of-the-box.

The following video demonstrates Workflows:

Conversations

The following comments are specific to the conversations workflow. However, many may apply to custom workflow templates.

Types of Conversations

When starting a new conversation at the member or cell level, users have the option to create either a global or report-specific conversation.

Model Conversations

Model conversations apply to the selected member or cell globally, across the given data model. This allows you to comment on a given member or cell whenever it appears in a discovery in the given data model. When the member or cell appears in a discovery (in both Discover and Present), you can simply open the related conversation and add a comment.

Report-Specific Conversations

Report specific conversations apply to the specified member or cell within the given discovery only. You will not be able to view the conversation from other discoveries, even if they contain the given member or cell.

Conversation Scope

You can start a conversation from both Discover and Present. From Discover, you can start a conversation at the report level, member level, or cell level.
